inRoute has been redesigned for CarPlay and is now available! Once inRoute is updated on your iPhone you can launch it from your CarPlay screen. If your phone is set to automatically update apps, this release is being rolled out over the next 7-days, or you can manually update anytime through your App Store app.
We’ve also created a guide to help get you up and running quickly with CarPlay: CarPlay Guide
What’s New in version 7.4:
Navigate routes from iOS or Mac, and create multi-stop routes directly in CarPlay
inRoute 7.3 is now available on the iOS and Mac App Stores, with additional features in the basic/free app, improved sharing between Pro and Free plans, search updates and more:
Expanded Free Plan
The free app now includes navigation (iOS), elevation charts/custom routes, layovers, advanced route search and more.
Share to Anyone
Routes with premium features can be shared to other plans including the free app, which operates in a viewer mode. Share your trip to family and friends so they can view your itinerary and notes in the free inRoute app for iOS or Mac.
Search Updates
A new “Type” button allows switching between map/route search types more easily. Bookmarked pins can now be searched by address as well as name.
Other Improvements
Undo/Redo buttons have been added to the More menu for easier access.
Performance updates and minor interface improvements.
inRoute 7.2 has been released, with several improvements to help plan and navigate your routes:
Navigation Updates
By default, navigation now uses a 3D perspective for a better view of the upcoming road. There are also new voices available during navigation, and a chime automatically replaces the voice during phone calls.
Map Updates Satellite maps are higher resolution, and like the Standard maps can be shown in 3D, where available (configure under the map’s Info icon). The Standard map type can now be used in Dark Mode as well.
Two-column Layout On iPads (and larger iPhones in landscape), you can keep lists onscreen while using the map, for example the turn-by-turn list or search results.
Also New
Routing improvements for better routes to dropped pins and to the front side of addresses
Easier access to common buttons for clearing the map and starting a new route, Contacts and Recents
The route name is shown on the top toolbar as space permits (iPad and iPhones in landscape)
inRoute 7.0 has been released, with iOS 13 support for Dark Mode, Multiple Windows (iPadOS), and Undo/Redo.
Dark Mode
inRoute’s new Dark map type is automatically used when iOS 13’s Dark Mode is enabled or when navigating at night (configurable in Settings). The Dark map type can also be toggled on/off under the map’s Info icon.
Multiple Windows
With iOS 13 on the iPad (iPadOS), you can now open multiple inRoute windows side by side, allowing you to compare routes, data charts and more.
Undo/Redo
The new 3-finger undo/redo gestures in iOS 13 can be used to undo route optimization and adding/removing locations (for example a 3-finger tap will show the shortcuts bar).
Also New
Additional keyboard shortcuts have been added for users with external keyboards, for example command-N to create a New Window.
iOS 13 or higher is required for this release. Previous users running older iOS versions can still download the previous inRoute release compatible with their device.
inRoute 6.5 is now available, with improved time zone support for easier planning across multiple time zones, and more.
Time Zone Updates
Easier route planning across multiple time zones: – Departure Time Zone: Set automatically based on Start pin’s location, or manual – Layovers: Assign based on waypoint’s local time zone or route’s departure time zone – Arrival Times: Choose to view in pin’s local time zone or route’s departure time zone
Also New
“Don’t Show Again” option added to route avoidance alerts; can be reset in Settings.
Performance updates and minor interface improvements
inRoute 6.4 has been released, now with routing to up to 150 locations, and interface updates to make planning your routes faster and easier.
Higher Limits
Pro plans can now create, import and optimize routes with up to 150 locations.
Streamlined Actions A new icon (More Options) replaces the prior Action/Share icon for common tasks. This provides quicker access for actions like saving, clearing and importing routes, with sharing to 3rd party apps now grouped under the Share button.
Also New
Swipe right from the left edge of the screen to close most fullscreen windows on iPhones. On larger screen iPhones this is often easier than reaching to the top corner’s Done button.
New option to restore previous revisions of your Bookmarks has been added to Settings. Revisions are stored locally on your device and backed up with your device backups.
A close button has been added to Charts, in addition to the previous toolbar button.
iOS 11 or higher is required for this release. Users running previous iOS versions can still download the previous inRoute release compatible with their device.
inRoute 6.2 is now available, with Siri integration for starting/ending routes and skipping waypoints on iOS 11, weather alerts that automatically dismiss during navigation, and more.
Siri Integration (iOS 11)
Use Siri to start/end routes and skip waypoints: – Start/Resume Current Route: “Hey Siri, Start route using inRoute” – Skip a Location: “Hey Siri, Skip next location using inRoute” – End Current Route: “Hey Siri, End route using inRoute” – Load from Bookmarks: “Hey Siri, Start activity named {Bookmark name} using inRoute”
Activating Siri with “Hey Siri” may require enabling this feature on your device (Settings app > Siri and Search). Instead of activating with “Hey Siri”, you can also hold the the home button to activate Siri (or the side button on iPhone X). Variations on the above commands work as well (e.g. Skip waypoint using inRoute, Skip location…, Start {Bookmark name}…), but we’ve found Siri to respond most reliably with the commands above.
Also New
Weather alerts automatically dismiss after 10 seconds during navigation
Performance updates and minor interface improvements
inRoute 6.1 has been released, including a new Avoid Highways option, additional alternate routes, map and routing improvements, and more.
Avoid Highways
Take the backroads on your next adventure! Now you can choose from up to 10 custom route profiles, including Avoid Highways.
New Route Options
Additional alternates are available to help plan your route.
Map and Routing Improvements
Real-time traffic displays are more reliable, and to quickly verify a pin’s address the full address is now shown below selected pins on iOS 11. Routing improvements for iOS 11 also help ensure you arrive at the front of new pins.
Interface Updates The last viewed position in your Bookmarks is now remembered, and there are new controls for auto-zoom and optimization in the Settings.
inRoute 6.0 is now available, with custom pin colors, a drawing mode for editing multiple pins, iOS 11 features including an improved pin style, iPad enhancements and much more.
Custom Pin Colors
Choose from up to 9 new colors for waypoints and non-route pins: – Easily identify your stops, search results, and more – Colors can be changed from their details screen (tap the pin’s name on the map), or change the color of multiple pins at once with the new Draw Mode
Draw Mode
Tap the new Draw icon on the map and select multiple map pins by drawing around them with your finger. Then set their color, add them to a route, save or clear them.
iPad Enhancements
Split-view and external keyboard shortcuts to search, edit, and save (hold the command key to show available commands in varying contexts).
iOS 11 Features
– New pin style: More legible and shows pin name or address directly on map – iPad drag-and-drop: Drop a pin from the Maps app or Contacts; import files (XLSX, GPX, KML) by dragging them from the Files app and Mail; drop a text list of addresses to create an optimized route.
Insert in Order
Now you can insert waypoints in the order you want without needing to reorder afterwards
