inRoute 9.0 has been released, with a new design for iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe, and a new app icon customizable for dark/tinted/clear modes.

New Design for iOS 26

A more expansive view of the map allows you to see more of your trip and its surroundings, while the Search button’s new location provides faster access at the bottom-right of the screen/toolbar.

New App Icon

The app icon is now customizable for different modes on supported OS versions. On iOS 18 and later, to customize, press and hold on an open area of the home screen, then at the top of the screen, tap Edit > Customize. On macOS Tahoe and later, customize using System Settings > Appearance > Icon & widget style.

inRoute 8.7 is now available on the iOS and Mac App Stores, and includes our top requested feature, speed limits during navigation, as well as improved sharing to external services:

Speed Limits

Speed limits are shown worldwide, during in-app navigation of both driving and RV routes (requires inRoute Pro). When available, the speed limit shows directly on your iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay map.

Share More

Improvements have been made to inRoute’s GPX file for better compatibility with external services, including the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner many of you have requested.

inRoute 8.6 has been released, with a new option to show ratings, open hours and other information for businesses and points of interest.

Ratings and Open Hours

You can now view place information from Apple Maps directly within inRoute, including ratings, open hours and more (requires iOS 18 or macOS Sequoia). When you select a business or point of interest on the map and show its details, a thumbs up button will appear on the toolbar whenever information like ratings or hours are available.

While this information cannot be made available automatically for pins you had previously added to the app in older versions of inRoute (the thumbs up button won’t appear), you can update an existing map pin by searching for that place again and selecting its search result. The existing map pin will then be updated and continue showing updated place information in the future.

Other Updates

Additional voices can now be used during navigation, including both Enhanced and Premium voices installable through the iOS Settings app (see inRoute’s “Speech” button during navigation for more information). Finally, minor improvements to CarPlay and Search have been made, including the ability to more easily search nearby places anywhere on the map.

inRoute 8.4 is now available on the iOS and Mac App Stores, with new options for your saved Favorites and for editing your maps:

Favorite Maps

Saving a route together with non-route pins now shows a map icon in your Favorites, instead of a folder. A single tap on these map icons more easily restores them (similar to restoring a route). A 3-dots icon next to each saved map includes additional options, including showing their contents.

Pin Layers

When you perform a search and add all the search results to the map, there’s now an option to remove only those pins from the map (under the 3-dots menu next to “add all”). This allows you to layer your search results onto your map, use some of those results in your route, and then easily remove only the remaining pins from the search.

Similarly, non-route pins saved into folders in your Favorites can now be layered onto your map, used in your route, and removed without affecting other map pins (see the 3-dots menu next to each folder). Create your own pin folders of favorite points of interest, clients, preferred roads, etc., and layer them onto your map when needed.

We’ve also added the ability to undo additional changes made to your map (“Undo” is under the map’s “More” menu on iOS, or the “Edit” menu on a Mac), updated the Upgrades screen, and made other minor interface updates.

inRoute 8.3 has been released, adding a new option to scan addresses with your device’s camera using Apple’s Live Text feature. Other minor updates have also been made to keep inRoute running smoothly on all platforms. 

Address Scanner

On the iOS Search screen, tap the new camera button in the search field, and a preview from your camera will appear.  Then, center an address in the camera preview, hold the camera steady, and the address will be highlighted. You can then tap the blue “Insert” button to search for that address, or if there are multiple addresses in your image (like in the image above), you can tap a different address to highlight it instead. 

Other Minor Updates

Improvements have been made to the save dialog to prevent duplicate saved copies when saving routes and pins together in folders. Additionally,  a couple bugs were fixed running on macOS Sonoma, including a problem searching on the Contacts screen.

inRoute 8.2 is now available on the iOS and Mac App Stores, with route search improvements to help you more easily find fuel, food, lodging & more, based on mileage or hours you want to drive:

Search Suggestions

Route search options now appear directly on the Search screen anytime there is a route on the map. You can easily find gas based on how many miles you want to drive between stops, find restaurants near lunch time, or find lodging based on how many hours you want to drive per day.

Search Examples

Each of the route search options include common search terms (gas, food, hotels, etc.), and results are color-coded to match the pin color each uses on the map.

Drop Pins at Intervals

You can now add markers at specific miles or hours along your route. For long trips, if you know how far you want to drive between stops, it can be useful to zoom in on each interval’s marker and search nearby, or simply pan around to see what’s nearby (tip: press and hold on a marker and select “Zoom to” to quickly zoom in).

inRoute 8.0 has been released, now with RV routing! For iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, we’ve also added support for selectable points of interest, improved map detail, and the ability to look around 360° at street-level imagery. If your device is set to automatically update apps, this release is being rolled out over the next 7-days, or you can manually update anytime through your App Store app.

RV Routing

Enter your RV’s dimensions, weight and whether you’re carrying propane, and inRoute will provide routes tailored to your vehicle that avoid clearance issues and weight/propane restrictions.

Selectable POIs (iOS 16 and Ventura)

You no longer need to search for points of interest to add them to the map. Now you can select points of interest directly on the map to get additional information or add them to your route.

New Maps (iOS 16 and Ventura)

New maps on iOS 16 include improved detail, 3D city views and terrain.

Look Around (iOS 16 and Ventura)

360° street-level imagery is now available in select cities and countries. Simply select any map pin or point of interest and an option to look around will appear on the map, when available.

inRoute 7.9 is now available on the iOS and Mac App Stores, with new options to change the default route profile, ignore closed roads, and more:

Routing Improvements

Avoidance criteria (tolls, highways, etc.) can now be set as the default route profile, and only routes avoiding those criteria will show on the map.

Ignore Closed Roads

More easily plan future trips while roads are currently closed due to winter weather, construction, etc. Enable in the app settings, then Advanced.

inRoute 7.8 has been released, with a new Pro subscription compatible with Apple Family Sharing, and much more! If your device is set to automatically update apps, this release is being rolled out over the next 7-days, or you can manually update anytime through your App Store app.

Pro for Families

Pro for Families is a new subscription option available on iOS that can be shared with up to 5 other family members using Apple Family Sharing. Current Pro subscribers can upgrade to Pro for Families, and the remainder of any existing subscription on iOS will be automatically refunded by the App Store. As with inRoute Pro, Pro for Families allows full access to the Mac version for each family member as well.

Pro for Families is available on the iOS app’s Upgrades screen or through your iOS App Store Subscriptions listing. 

Contacts Sharing

You can now drag and drop multiple contacts at once from the Contacts app to inRoute, on iPad or Mac. The iPhone Contacts app does not currently support drag and drop.

Other Improvements

• inRoute is now compatible with the WunderLINQ for BMW Motorcycles
• Several pronunciations have been improved during turn-by-turn voice guidance
• Many other performance and minor interface improvements

inRoute 7.7 is now available on the iOS and Mac App Stores, with several improvements for searching your saved pins and routes, and more:

Favorites Search

Bookmarks have been renamed to Favorites, and you can now search your entire catalog of favorite routes, pins and folders from within Favorites.

Integrated Search

The main Search screen now automatically searches the saved pins in your Favorites as well, whenever you search the map through the app or CarPlay.

Siri Search

A new Siri Shortcut, “Restore Favorite”, has been added to restore your favorite routes and pins to the map, through the app or CarPlay. Enable through the app’s More button > Siri Shortcuts.

Other Improvements

• inRoute is now available as a navigation app in the Where To? app by FutureTap.
• Saving groups of pins in Draw Mode no longer automatically creates a new subfolder in Favorites, so you can choose exactly where your pins are stored in the save dialog.
• Performance updates and minor interface improvements.
